GAINESVILLE, FL. – Gleim Aviation is excited to announce the release of the Gleim Virtual Cockpit™, the ultimate flight simulator experience designed by pilots, for pilots. The all-in-one simulator platform is built specifically for flight simulation and, when used in conjunction with the Gleim X-Plane Flight Training Course, the unit offers a home simulator platform with a fully interactive training program.
Gleim Aviation wants to provide current pilots with an affordable, authentic in-home training experience. Gleim Aviation’s Paul Duty said the realistic experience prepares students to fly an airplane and helps develop muscle memory. The Gleim Virtual Cockpit™ is a chance for pilots to practice and improve proficiency and that’s what pilots want most, Duty said.
“Ask a pilot what they really want, and they’ll say ‘To fly more often,’” said Duty who is a also a pilot, Certificated Flight Instructor-Instrument [CFII], and Advanced Ground Instructor [AGI]. “Simulators are the next best thing, allowing students to learn in a controlled environment. An airplane is full of distractions which makes it difficult to learn complex flight maneuvers.”
The versatile design includes an articulating tray table that is designed to easily attach peripherals such as yokes, flight sticks, racing wheels, and accessories with pre-drilled mounting holes, a removable center tray that can securely hold a joystick, a side tray designed to hold a throttle quadrant, trim wheel, mouse, or other accessories, and an articulating foot or pedal tray to secure a variety of pedals.
The unit is compatible with a variety of peripherals from Saitek, CH, Logitech, Thrustmaster, Fanatec, and more. The monitor mounts can hold three screens up to 32 inches and universal adapter brackets are available for displays requiring nonstandard or larger brackets.
Gleim Aviation Developer Christopher Hanlon, who is also a pilot, said the design of the Gleim Virtual Cockpit™, which started two years ago, benefits users because of the adjustments Gleim Aviation experts made after researching other systems. “We tested out other systems and thought we could do better,” Hanlon said. “We set up the system, tested how comfortable it was with the pedals, throttles, and for what we were trying to do for our course,” he said. “We added a tray, and if you have a joystick, we have a center tray for that. So if you’re flying a plane that uses a yoke, we are set up for that, if you are flying a plane that uses a joystick, you can adjust the system for that.”
The Gleim Virtual Cockpit™ is the ideal training solution for both VFR and IFR students. Flight schools, colleges and universities, and schools with STEM programs can also use the Gleim Virtual Cockpit™ to enhance training programs, saving students time and money, while creating safe, competent pilots. Well-prepared students are more likely to minimize frustration and complete their training.
The Gleim Virtual Cockpit™ sells for $549.95, which completes the home simulator training experience when used with the Gleim X-Plane Flight Training Course. The interactive course fully integrates flight lessons from the proven Gleim Private Pilot Syllabus with the ultra-realistic X-Plane 10 simulator. Users can experience all of the flight maneuvers at home, with step-by-step guidance, real-time corrective feedback, and post-flight evaluations.
