Gleim Aviation is thrilled to partner with the Aerospace Center for Excellence to help produce their Destination Aviation Virtual Summer Camp. The 6-week camp begins on June 15th, is designed for students 11-17 years old, and features exciting aviation lessons, virtual field trips, and interviews with aerospace professionals.
Destination Aviation Virtual Summer Camp is FREE for all to participate, but participants may opt to order a Summer Camp Kit, which includes lesson supplies and materials, a Destination Aviation camp shirt, a pilot logbook, a Gleim Aviation hat, and more for a nominal fee of $49. Participants interested in the Summer Camp Kit are encouraged to register by June 1st for the kit to arrive in time for camp.
Participants who are being sponsored by EAA, 99’s, or any other organization should email firstname.lastname@example.org to request information about processing your registration. Scholarships are also available upon request. Participants interested in receiving a scholarship for the camp can email email@example.com before registering to receive more information.
Virtual Aviation Lessons curated by engaging instructors from the Aerospace Center for Excellence and Gleim Aviation will be posted to the Aerospace Center for Excellence’s Facebook page and website at 11:00 a.m. ET beginning June 15, 2020. Lessons will cover a variety of aviation topics including fundamentals of flight, aviation weather, flight planning, and more!
Virtual Field Trips
Explore and learn from places like Jack Brown’s Seaplane Base, Lakeland Linder International Airport’s Air Traffic Control Tower, and Lakeland Fire Department’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) Station. The first Virtual Field Trip will be posted on June 17, 2020.
Interviews with Aviators
The summer camp will also include interviews with inspiring aviators such as Aerobatic Airshow Performer – Caroline Doughtery, Delta Airline Captain – Aaron Rajanen, NOAA Corps Pilot – Commander Rebecca Waddington, and more! The full schedule of lessons, field trips, and interviews can be found on Aerospace Center for Excellence’s website.
The Discovery Flight activity has been the summer highlight for students for many years. Participants have been afforded the exciting opportunity to fly in a small aircraft and personally apply the knowledge attained from the camp in-flight with a qualified instructor. In light of the situation this year, flight simulation resources are available for students to virtually experience the magic of flight. In-person discovery flights will be scheduled at a later date and will be communicated with parents/guardians through the email address provided in your registration. Watch your email for more information throughout the course of the camp.
If you are between the ages of 11 and 17 and have a burning passion for aviation, this is the perfect opportunity for you to explore the wonders of flight from inspiring professionals who eat, sleep, and breathe aviation. Register today!
