Aviation Kids USA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to provide hands-on, aviation focused STEM education to kids and underserved communities, held a school-wide Aviation STEM Day on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at the Pinecrest Academy Charter School in Wesley Chapel, FL. Nearly 650 students attended the daylong event, which opened with a University of South Florida PhD student discussing how his team built three cube satellites for launch on a SpaceX rocket this fall. This was followed by a range of interactive and hands-on activities such as flying flight simulators and drone simulators, aircraft demonstrations, programming robots, soldering electronic circuits, assembling paper circuits, building gliders, and touring a real aircraft.
Every student was provided an age appropriate take-home bag with aviation and engineering educational materials. Gleim Aviation provided “Learn to Fly” booklets for the 5th and 6th grade students and cool aviation stickers for other attendees. Gleim is proud to support STEM aviation programs and inspire the next generation of aviators.
STEM education is critical for students to succeed in an information-based, high-tech society. Teaching aviation helps students understand the science, technology, and applications of flight. Students will gain a deeper appreciation of physics, weather, and engineering concepts that they can apply to other courses and real-world scenarios.
Whether you are already teaching or making a case for a new STEM aviation program, Gleim can help. Visit the Gleim Aviation STEM Resource Hub for more information or contact us to discuss your STEM program goals with our team.
