STEM Resource Hub

Studies prove that activities using real-life science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) applications help students excel in other subjects while demonstrating how they can benefit society. Gleim Aviation provides resources designed to help educators integrate STEM aviation into their classrooms.

STEM education is critical for students to succeed in an information-based, high-tech society. Teaching aviation helps students understand the science, technology, and applications of flight. Students will gain a deeper appreciation of physics, weather, and engineering concepts that they can apply to other courses and real-world scenarios.

Whether you are already teaching or making a case for a new STEM aviation program, Gleim can help. Request more information today to discuss your program goals with our team.

Professional Development

Are there any professional development courses available to help me teach aviation?

Yes! Gleim Aviation online courses are used by teachers for their own professional development to master aviation instruction so they can engage their students with an inspiring aviation curriculum.

Teachers can earn FAA certification quickly while gaining valuable resources to achieve aviation subject matter expertise.

After completing each course, you will be prepared to pass the FAA knowledge test, which is required to become certificated as a ground instructor and/or remote pilot.

Ground Instructors are qualified to teach aeronautical knowledge. Basic Ground Instructors (BGIs) can teach and endorse students to test for sport, recreational, and private pilot tests. Advanced Ground Instructors (AGIs) can also teach and endorse any student level, except the instrument rating. The Gleim Flight and Ground Instructor Online Ground School includes basic and advanced aviation concepts from aerodynamics to weather, airplane systems to navigation, and more. The course is a self-directed study course designed to prepare you to pass the FAA Advanced Ground Instructor Knowledge Test.

You can use this course to study at your own pace. The course takes about 35 hours to complete using our sophisticated Knowledge Transfer System to ensure that you master all of the information required to be a competent ground instructor and pass your FAA knowledge test with confidence.

The remote pilot certificate is your license to fly drones for hire and get paid as a professional drone operator of small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS). The Gleim FAA Test Prep Online is a unique, easy-to-use program that contains the study outlines, FAA questions, and on-screen charts and figures needed to study for and pass the Remote Pilot - sUAS FAA Knowledge Test. As a remote pilot you are authorized to act as the pilot in command while overseeing another person flying an sUAS.

During training, teachers will gain the aeronautical knowledge for all required topics from regulations to radio communications, airspace to aeronautical decision making, and more. The Remote Pilot Test Prep Online has hundreds of multiple-choice questions available, including all previously released FAA questions and Gleim written questions.

The Fundamentals of Instructing (FOI) course will fully prepare educators to teach aviation. The course covers learning processes, barriers to learning, human behavior, effective communication, teaching methods, lesson planning, and student critiques and evaluations. You are not required to take the FOI knowledge test if you hold a current teacher's certificate authorizing you to teach at a 7th grade educational level or higher, or are currently employed as a teacher at an accredited college or university. You can use this course to study at your own pace.

The course takes about 35 hours to complete using our sophisticated Knowledge Transfer System to ensure that you master the Fundamentals of Instruction FAA knowledge test.

STEM Program Promotion

Our popular Learn to Fly booklets are a valuable resource for introducing students to aviation and explaining how to start flight training. This 48-page booklet includes introductory aviation content detailing the steps prospective pilots should take to reach their flight training goals.

Learn to Fly explains FAA training requirements in plain language, goes over what to expect for an introductory flight, introduces airplanes and how they fly, discusses the primary flight maneuvers students will learn, and details advanced flight training opportunities. Learn to Fly is a great resource to use for marketing your school's aviation program to prospective students and at aviation events.

Aviation Classroom Materials

STEM Resources

Gleim Aviation can supply your classroom with all of the training materials necessary to engage your students in an aviation learning experience that is comprehensive and easy to maneuver. Students and teachers can utilize Gleim reference materials and lessons that focus on a range of topics including weather and the science of flying. They also have access to hands-on practical experience in the Gleim Virtual Cockpit. Any computer station in your classroom can be turned into a practice station for aviation education and pilot training.

Flight Simulation in the Classroom

The Gleim Virtual Cockpit is an all-in-one flight simulator allowing you to engage your students in a way that has never been possible before. Keep students motivated to learn at unprecedented levels. Students can immediately apply the skills learned in the classroom in a safe, controlled, environment.

The Gleim X-Plane Flight Training Course integrates flight lessons from the FAA-Approved Gleim Pilot Training Syllabus with the ultra-realistic X-Plane flight simulator. All private pilot flight maneuvers can be practiced with step-by-step guidance, real-time corrective feedback, and post-flight evaluations. The simulator requires no previous aviation experience. It helps students with math and science and provides a head start for those interested in aviation careers.

Testing Management

AvLearn is the premier testing management solution for universities, flight schools, training centers, and high schools.
